Open Space & Recreation Plan Update
The Foxborough Conservation Commission is currently in the process of updating the Town’s Open Space and Recreation Plan. It is only through thoughtful planning and active stewardship that Massachusetts’ open spaces, critical plant and animal habitats, neighborhood parks, and quality outdoor recreation facilities remain a part of our communities’ landscapes. Without planning, the appearance of a community, the lifestyle of its residents, and the condition of its natural resources can be dramatically altered in a short period of time due to ill-conceived changes in land use patterns.
Purpose of an OS&RP
An Open Space and Recreation Plan is a five year strategic planning document that provides towns with a policy guide, outlining a clear direction for the balanced use of the town’s natural resources including the following:
maintenance of environmental quality;
protection and preservation of ground and surface water;
a balanced recreation plan to meet the needs of a growing population;
preservation and promotion of natural areas for conservation purposes; and
integration of conservation and recreation areas.
An OS&RP is a very useful tool, particularly since towns with up-to-date Open Space and Recreation Plans are more likely to receive State conservation or recreation grant monies.
