Under Massachusetts general law, the Town of Foxborough is required to complete a comprehensive revaluation of all Town properties every three years. The Town is currently in the revaluation process which began in February. Due to circumstances beyond the Town’s control, there will be a delay in finalizing these values, which will result in a delay in the tax rate being set.
Therefore the Town of Foxborough issued PRELIMINARY Tax bills in the last week of November. As always, the taxpayer had 30 days to pay their tax bill. Preliminary Tax Bills were due on December 30, 2009.
The preliminary tax bill is based on 50% of last year’s net tax plus an additional 1.25%, for a total of 51.25% of the prior year’s net tax bill.
Your second half tax bill, mailed in the Spring of 2010, will be an actual tax bill based on the new values and tax rate set by the Town and approved by the Department of Revenue.
Once the actual tax bills are mailed you will be able to apply for an abatement or exemption, as appropriate through the Assessors office. As always, you will have 30 days from the date of issue to apply.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this delay in sending out actual tax bills.
